Hi, I’m Amanda and I’m proud to be a Librarian. I’m even prouder to be associated with the fantastic Career Development Group, an organisation of some 4000 library & information professionals. As President of the group from April – December 2008, I will be blogging myself hoarse.

How exciting – do I get to be the first person to comment? Strikes me, reading through the colourful collection of comments on life, the universe, and CDG, that you’d make a fantastic public librarian! Can you get any better than helping children to make killer bugs out of card and felt (“How do you spell ‘terminator’?” asked one verbally-challenged seven year old.) Honestlty, kids are the funniest things ever. “What’s the difference,” I once asked a class, “between this central library and the mobile library you visited last week?” A brief silence. “This one hasn’t got wheels.” Genius. Seriously though, great blog, and great publicity for the wonderful world of CDG!

Hi,
Lisa (big issue seller) passed away on Tuesday. She had pneumonia and suffered heart failure (her immune system was weak). Anyhoo, it was nice to see her mentioned in your blog. Im her big sis and I was just typing her name in the web browser.
She lived at home with mum and dad, we all loved her (loved? I still love her).
I don’t want to depress you, Im just proud that despite her drug problem she was so lovely that relative strangers saw past that and found her to be a nice young woman.
Thanks,
Fiona

Hi Fiona. So sorry about Lisa – one of the other regular commuters had passed on the news already. She was a sweet girl and always liked to have a chat with her regular customers. I remember it was her birthday one time and I gave her a hug as everyone should have hugs on their birthday and it’s not as though they cost anything. It’s good to know that she had a supportive family. Best wishes, Amanda
